Imagine a space where science and spirituality unite to tackle the world's most urgent crises — from climate change to cultural division to AI ethics.
In the heart of Assisi, Italy — a city symbolic of peace and interfaith harmony — we are launching the Bede Griffiths House: a retreat and conference center dedicated to ecological renewal, interreligious dialogue, and inclusive technology.
Grounded in the contemplative wisdom of mystic Bede Griffiths and the rigor of interdisciplinary science,
our mission is to inspire learning, collective action and healing across divides.
Supported by a small local community of dedicated volunteers as core team, the initiative is led by Dr. Petra Ahrweiler, Professor of Technology and Innovation Sociology, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, engaged in researching complex societal challenges, and representatives of the Benedictine-Camaldolese congregation engaged in interreligious and intercultural dialogue dedicated to the vision of Bede Griffiths.
Offering the modern commodities and facilities of a conference and retreat centre, the Bede Griffiths House is located within the historic centre of Assisi near the Cathedral of San Rufino. The building, a monastic complex around a lovely private garden, dates back to the thirteenth century. It offers space for about twenty guests providing en-suite bedrooms – most of them with a view to the brilliant landscape of Assisi valley with Santa Maria degli Angeli.
We’re seeking 100,000 EUR to open our doors:
to restore the historic space, establish our foundation, and build momentum.
Join us in shaping
a just and sustainable global future.
Donations, earmarked "Bede Griffiths House in Assisi", will be soon organised through the Bede Griffiths Trust, a charitable US-based organisation with a 501(c)3 status (tax ID number 75-2965943).
